Tony Snow

Friday, April 28th, 2006

FAUX News reporter Tony Snow is the new White House press secretary. The future of White House press conferences looks much like this.

I’m waiting for the day he runs out of gas and either quits or gets fired. Who are they going to put in that position next?

PmWiki

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Here at work, I’ve had to set up a wiki engine because even though our MWS group has super documentation, it’s somehow still not enough to ward off users who often have strange requests.

After some short reading, i’ve decided to go with PmWiki. It’s a very lightweight engine that is perfect if you’re in a super-structured IT environment. I.E., if you have to submit a remedy ticket to get anything and everything done, this is the wiki engine for you. I say this because I was lucky enough to find a box that had both apache and php installed. I simply unpacked the pmwiki.tar and changed a few configs, and voila!

It doesn’t even require a MySQL instance, which is good in the case of my environment. Although the idea of having to deal with a flatfile doesn’t seem so friendly… but then again, JMS supports it too, and just look at what you can do with that.

Pearl Jam

Monday, April 24th, 2006

If you haven’t yet heard, Pearl Jam is releasing their new self-titled album on May 2nd. It’s already leaked on bt sites for a couple of weeks, and most fan-sites agree that this is their best creation since Vitalogy.

The focus of the new album is war and politics, with Vedder providing a lot of meaningful lyrics that most people won’t likely understand (as usual). Also on a normal note, McCready has some absolutely amazing riffs throughout the album (give Worldwide Suicide a listen).

All-in-all, this makes me glad I got tickets for the Continental Arena concert this summer :-)

God Hates My Sports Teams

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

So it’s tuesday night… i’m playing Wonderwall (Oasis) on my guitar, browsing through the channels on the tube, and realizing that perhaps this is a good night for a sports fan (a New York one, anyways).

On the YES network, the yanks are playing the jays, with RJ on the mound.
On MSG, we’ve got the senators taking on my rangers, as they try to avoid falling out of first place in the division.

That’s about all that went right…. the yankees fell behind 6-4 REALLY QUICKLY (no thanks to RJ’s garbage slider and fastball). Opposing him is Chacin (0-4 against the yanks last year). The rangers didn’t fare better, falling behind 2-0 to ottawa. Apparently it didn’t occur to these teams that winning is the primary objective in sports… especially when you’re pushing for the playoffs.

I get up this morning, come to work, and read the news
to find that my hockey team loses the division title to who else… the *ucking devils. To further the damage, we have to play the team with an 11-game winning streak in the first round of the playoffs.

The yankees, on a not-so-brighter note, lose to the jays 10-4. Pretty sad that a team with a $Septillion payroll can’t successfully win a series against anyone but the Royals.

Thanks, God! Next, why don’t you break Jeter’s ankle(s) as he rounds third after a game-winning home run (against the Devil Rays, albeit). While you’re at it, maybe Jagr can get run over on his way to the swamp by some douchebag on the Jersey turnpike.

This whole year has been bad for my sports teams. The knicks have the worst record in HISTORY. The yanks, a few weeks into the season, are looking like the yanks of last year. The rangers are choking their way into the playoffs.

I think i’ll start watching Nascar. Even though it’s a redneck-endorsed “sport,” there are some damn pretty girls. Knowing my luck, Mark Martin, (he drives the Viagra car) probably dies of a hard-on that lasts more than 4 hours, and kills a few of the pretty Nascar chicks along the way (that has Freud written all over it)….

I get the point….

So one of my smartass Alpha Sigma Phi brothers decided to let me know that I need to fix some things with this Rails app. *&@#^%# George needs better things to do with his time….

Sigh- back to the drawing board.
